The Pre-Workout Guide: Choosing the Right Formula
Stimulant or stim-free, pump or thermogenic — what to look for and when to take it.

A pre-workout is designed to support energy, focus and performance in training. The best choice depends on your goal, your caffeine tolerance and when you train.
Common ingredients
Look for clearly labelled doses of ingredients such as L-citrulline for blood flow, beta-alanine for endurance, betaine for power output and caffeine for alertness.
Stim vs stim-free
If you train in the evening or are sensitive to caffeine, a stim-free formula supports pumps and focus without affecting sleep. Morning lifters may prefer a stimulant blend.
Timing
Most people take a pre-workout 20–30 minutes before training. Start with a half serving to assess tolerance, and avoid stacking with other caffeine sources.
